Principal AI Engineer Chatbot Development

OKX is seeking a Principal AI Engineer to lead the development of its AI-powered chatbot systems. In this senior technical role, you will architect and build next-generation conversational AI solutions that serve millions of users, working with the latest large language models and retrieval-augmented generation techniques.

• Lead the technical design and development of OKX's conversational AI and chatbot systems
• Research and implement state-of-the-art NLP and LLM techniques for production applications
• Build RAG systems, fine-tuning pipelines, and evaluation frameworks for AI chatbots
• Collaborate with product managers to translate user needs into AI solutions
• Mentor junior AI engineers and establish best practices for AI development at OKX
• Drive innovation by experimenting with new AI techniques and architectures

• Principal-level experience in AI/ML engineering with focus on NLP or conversational AI
• Deep expertise with transformer models, LLMs, and fine-tuning techniques
• Strong Python skills and experience with ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow)
• Experience building production RAG systems and evaluating LLM performance
• Track record of delivering AI systems at scale in a fast-paced environment

OKX is hiring a Principal AI Engineer to lead the architecture and deployment of large-scale, LLM-powered conversational chatbot systems. Based in San Jose, CA (hybrid 3 days/week in San Jose or New York). Salary: $313,055–$450,000 plus performance bonus and long-term incentives.

Responsibilities: Lead design and development of conversational chatbot products for enterprise and consumer use cases; drive experimentation and continuous learning pipelines; design multi-level intent routing, classifier training, and fallback strategies; build dialogue quality evaluation systems; drive automated bad-case discovery, A/B testing, and iteration loops; ensure scalability, security, and regulatory compliance of AI-powered solutions.

Requirements: PhD or Master's in CS, AI, Machine Learning, or related field with 10+ years of industry experience; deep understanding of industrial dialogue systems including orchestration layers, intent classification, and policy control; proven experience deploying large-scale conversational products in production; hands-on experience designing multi-tier intent routing and training classifiers. Preferred: experience in top-tier AI labs; crypto/fintech background.
