Staff Software Engineer, Margin & Risk

Alpaca, an agent-first brokerage infrastructure provider for stocks, options, crypto and fixed income, is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to lead the technical direction of its Margin & Risk team within Prime Engine. The team builds the systems that calculate margin, enforce real-time risk limits, and manage margin calls across every asset class Alpaca supports.

• Own the architecture and technical roadmap for margin and risk across asset classes
• Design systems that turn complex margin methodologies and regulatory rules into correct, observable systems
• Lead real-time risk enforcement on the order path, balancing latency against accuracy and safety
• Partner with Product, Brokerage Operations and Compliance on integration boundaries

• 8+ years of backend or distributed-systems experience
• Proven ownership of a high-volume system where defects could cause financial loss
• Strong expertise in Go, or deep experience in Java, C++ or Rust with willingness to work in Go
• Deep knowledge of relational databases, transactions, consistency and concurrency
