Staff Backend Engineer, Vaults

Aave Labs is hiring a Staff Backend Engineer to join a small technical team building backend infrastructure for its new DeFi vault products. The role covers vault management and curation systems, constraint-based allocation solvers, high-throughput blockchain indexers, and APIs that turn reviewed quant models into production services, working closely with Quant and Smart Contract engineers on systems where correctness directly affects user funds.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate backend infrastructure for Aave's new DeFi protocols and vault products
• Develop vault management and curation systems alongside constraint-based allocation solvers
• Build and maintain high-throughput blockchain indexers for on-chain data
• Design APIs that turn reviewed quant models into reliable production services
• Partner closely with Quant and Smart Contract engineers on correctness-critical systems

What we are looking for

• 5-8+ years of backend engineering experience
• Strong proficiency in Rust (or comparable systems languages like C++, Go, or Zig)
• Experience with PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, and Kafka in production environments
• Background in blockchain/DeFi infrastructure or real-capital financial systems

This is a foundational hire for Aave Labs' expansion beyond its core lending protocol into vault-based DeFi products. The role offers direct ownership over infrastructure underpinning real user funds, at one of the longest-running and largest DeFi protocols by total value locked.
